Since I’m a depressive person by nature I’m going to take this Valentines Day and flip it on it’s head with a little of the opposite of mushy-gushy love. Because Love isn’t all roses, chocolates and make-out sessions. Love is hard! Love is insecurity, love is trauma, love is…exposed
I love you is the new exposed…
I said I loved him
We had just met and somehow I knew
I could feel it deep within, overpowering me
Pushing aside my better sense
Devastating my reason
Words welling up
My full heart in my mouth
Flooding over in a rush
I love you
I wanted to hold it back
Self-preservation said I should
But I couldn’t
The truth wanted to be put
Into words
In the car, alone, I cry
Sobbing loud
Not able to see clearly
Screaming, wondering why I put myself out there
Questioning why I asked to be crushed
His words, repeating, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you
My heart is cannibalizing itself
Throbbing with rejection
Tears red hot, stripped
But the truth is, it doesn’t matter that I said it
I already feel it
That is enough, to leave me open
Exposed
I could die of exposure
